Welcome. MyWakingVerse is a scripture alarm clock made and maintained by Darryl Sykes as a sole individual operator ("MyWakingVerse," "we," "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the MyWakingVerse mobile application or this website (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. What the Service does
You set an alarm, the alarm fires at the chosen time, and you complete a short memorize-the-verse challenge to dismiss it. The Service also includes a Bible reader, reading plans, and a streak tracker. The goal is simple: the first thirty seconds of your day belong to scripture, not to your scroll.
2. The cost is zero — and stays that way
MyWakingVerse is free. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases that unlock features, and no advertising. The app exists because of voluntary donations from people who want to keep it that way.
3. Donations
You may make a voluntary donation through the "Give" link, which opens a hosted Stripe Payment Link in your browser. Donations are processed entirely by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms.
All donations are final and non-refundable. By making a donation, you acknowledge that you are giving a voluntary gift to support the ongoing operation of MyWakingVerse, with no expectation of goods, services, features, or a refund in return. Making a donation does not unlock additional functionality — donors and non-donors use the exact same app.
Donations are not tax-deductible. MyWakingVerse is not a registered non-profit organization, and no portion of your donation should be treated as a charitable contribution for tax purposes.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits it
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service
- Use custom verse or label fields to upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, or that infringes the rights of others
5. Your content
When you add a custom verse, alarm label, or note, that content stays on your device. We don't see it, we don't store it on a server, and we don't use it for any purpose. You retain all rights to anything you create within the app.
6. Scripture content
Bible text in the Service is provided through public Bible APIs and public-domain translations (for example, the World English Bible and the King James Version). Each translation is offered under its own license; references and attributions appear within the app.
7. Intellectual property
The MyWakingVerse name, logo, design, and software (other than third-party scripture content) are owned by Darryl Sykes. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on devices you own or control, solely for personal, non-commercial use.
8. App Store terms
If you download MyWakingVerse from the Apple App Store, you also acknowledge Apple's standard licensee terms: Apple is not a party to these Terms, has no obligation to provide support, and is not responsible for any claims you may have relating to the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and is entitled to enforce them against you.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that alarms will fire reliably under every operating-system condition — for example, if your device is powered off, in Do Not Disturb with notifications muted, has been denied notification permission, or has force-quit the app. Do not rely on MyWakingVerse as your sole alarm for safety-critical wake-ups (medication, infant care, transport, professional shifts, etc.). Keep a backup alarm for anything where missing it carries real consequences.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyWakingVerse and Darryl Sykes will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service — including, without limitation, damages for missed alarms, lost data, or lost opportunity. Total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed USD $50, or the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is less. For most users that amount is zero.
11. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app. We may suspend or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time. If we discontinue the Service entirely, the data stored on your device remains there until you remove the app.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
